Move of the Week for the week of August 4, 1997
Your opponent is choking you from the guard position. Pivot counter-clockwise on your back as you attempt the arm bar technique from 7/28/97.
As you bring your legs around, your opponent counters by standing up and pressing his body weight on you. Reach your right hand to grab your opponent's right ankle and hold his right arm with your left hand. Continue to pivot counter clockwise.
As you continue to pivot, your opponent will be forced over for a takedown. This should flow naturally as you turn and should not require great force. Your opponent should roll on the takedown to avoid injury.
Try to land your opponent close to you, so the arm bar will be effective. Slide closer to your opponent than the picture depicts for the arm bar. The closer you are, the more effective it will be.

Again, these sorts of techniques may require some trial and error to discover the details that make a difference. As always, use caution with the arm bars. Have fun.
