Move of the Week for the week of March 10, 1997
Face your opponent As your opponent steps in with his left hand, step right and in, executing a left hand high defense
Rotate your hips for power in your right hand, palm up punch to the ribs Hold your opponent's left arm to maintain control of him as you throw a left leg round kick to his midsection
Step down from the round kick with a right hand ridge hand to the back of your opponent's neck Hold his left wrist with your right hand as your right forearm presses forward near the back of his elbow to force him down with the armbar (make sure his wrist is rotated so that the back of his elbow faces you)
As your opponent nears the ground, grab his left shoulder with your right hand to pull him up, reversing direction on him (this can be very disorienting for your opponent) As you're pulling him back, sweep his left leg forward with your right leg
Continue with the take down, placing him where you want him with as much or as little force as you desire Finish with a right hand downward hammer strike or other appropriate technique.

This is a fun technique with crisp moves. The reversal of direction on the takedown can really throw your opponent for a psychological loop. If you're working with a big guy, you may have to just continue the arm bar all the way down if you get him too low before reversing the technique. Pracitce, have fun, be careful. As always, try the technique to see how effective it is with various opponent responses. See you next week.
